Soak It Up

Seemingly simple food pads help prevent mess and waste.

Atop a freshly mown lawn sits a bean bag toss waiting to be played, a fire pit stocked with wood, and a beautifully set picnic table, big enough for eight.

Guests are about to arrive to this thoughtfully planned cookout. The hosts are busy lighting lanterns, picking a playlist, and heating up the grill. On the menu: a fresh garden salad, some ice cold beers, and juicy steaks and scrumptious cheeseburgers with all the fixings.

Without thinking, the grill master sets the packages of meat on the bright orange and yellow paisley paper tablecloth. His blunder elicits a loud “Oh, no!” from the co-host, his wife.

Fears of finding a pool of ill-colored liquid underneath quickly build in her mind. She spent a good hour setting her table scape with bright cutlery, napkins, plates and glasses, and fresh-cut flowers to match.

Holding her breath, she lifts the packages that held the raw meat, expecting the absolute worst.
